If you use twitter and every time you open your profile and wish for a blue tick too, then there is a good news for you!
The latest news is that Twitter has finally decided to open verification for everyone. In some days, you will find a blue-check-mark beside your name too!
This idea was discussed by the CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey on Thursday on Twitter’s Periscope in a livestream.
“The intention is to open verification to everyone, and to do it in a way that is scalable where [Twitter is] not in the way,” Jack Dorsey said. “And people can verify more facts about themselves, and we don’t have to be the judge or imply any bias on our part.”
Yes it’s true that previously, Twitter’s verification mark was only for celebrities, politicians and other high-profile accounts to let the users know that the accounts are not spam.
Dorsey recognized the problem and said that some people see the blue-check-mark as an approval by the company rather than just an identity verification mark. He also considered the process of verification ‘very broken’ and said that “The main problem is, we use [the blue tick] to mean identity. But in user research, users think of it as credibility, [that] Twitter stands behind this person and what they’re saying is great and authentic, which is not what we meant.”
Twitter acknowledged the issues with its verification process in 2016. That was the first time that the platform opened its verification for everyone. But it did not work well and the social media giant faced backlash for verifying several controversial figures.
So, Twitter is working on its verification process and figuring out how to verify the mass users so that they can get their blue check. But, after every user receives it, would it make them feel like a celebrity which they always wanted to feel like?
