Europe has pretty much to offer to its tourists; people can surf, ski, sandboard and what not. Well, something unusual is on its way!
It will let people eat in a restaurant underwater. Yes, you heard it right! Thanks to Norweigan design company called Snøhetta. It has disclosed its plans to construct continent’s first submerged dining restaurant, which it hopes will be constructed near the village of Båly.
From the outside, it appears like a concrete container that’s been randomly tossed into the shallows, but inside there will be a restaurant with space for up to 100 guests and a huge window for incredible views of the North Atlantic.
A rough exterior means it will double as an artificial mussel reef, and when it’s not serving up to guests, Under will act as a marine research centre.
“More than an aquarium, the structure will become a part of its marine environment, coming to rest directly on the seabed five meters below the water’s surface,” explains Snøhetta. “Like a sunken periscope, the restaurant’s massive acrylic windows offer a view of the seabed as it changes throughout the seasons and varying weather conditions.”
The typically Scandi wooden interior will have three levels – an entrance and wardrobe, a champagne bar, and the main restaurant. Blue and green colours will evoke the ocean.
“On a day of rough sea, you can feel a hint of fresh, salty ocean spray against your face as you enter the restaurant,” says Snøhetta. Doesn’t that sound interesting?. But wait? Already putting it on a trip list? Its construction hasn’t even started yet. It hopes to begin construction work next year and expects an opening in 2019.
But if you are already up to it, consider visiting Dubai or Maldives for the underwater dining experience.
