We already know that luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz outpaced BMW and Audi in terms of 2017 sales. Though, we sensed that coming for some time, as BMW’s competitors from Stuttgart were increasing chances throughout the last year. Moreover, it doesn’t help BMW’s cause that the luxury automaker had two of the worst selling cars of 2017.
One of the BMWs was already expected to perform poorly and that was BMW i8. That makes sense because of major reasons. Firstly, its price point. The car costs almost a fortune: $143,300. Secondly, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, with its wild exterior, plug-in hybrid powertrain and mid-engine supercar layout.
The second car was the BMW Z4, which also performed poorly in terms of sales as expected. The Z4 is positively ancient. When the current-generation Z4 launched, it seems like a lifetime ago. When it first went on sale back in 2004, it was actually a big hit. It had a wild design, a sleek folding metal roof and stunning dynamics. While it’s still fun to drive, it’s lost its appeal; it’s not just able to compete with cars like the latest Porsche 718 Boxster or the Audi TT Roadster. Oh, and the company stopped manufacturing in 2016, so whatever sales it generated was from leftovers.
A new Z4 is expected to hit the market in 2018 and it looks pretty stunning, from both its incredible concept car and the spy shots and videos we have come across. Apart from the Z4, the company will also be unveiling the new X2, 3 Series and 8 Series this year. So, Bavarians have a pretty good chance to pick up the pace this year.
The latest BMW i3 120ah battery which is integrated in all the latest models is what has increased the company’s sale for this year. It is expected that the company will grow even more in the upcoming years due to amazing car launches such as the Supra car in collaboration with Toyota.
