So this is a wireless charging era and BMW has also jumped on the current trend with a giant wireless charging pad for your car.
The auto manufacturer describes in a blog post that it has plans to develop a wireless inductive charger by 2018.
The charging pad, basically a giant version of the Qi chargers you put your smartphones on, will begin with the BMW 530e iPerformance plug-in hybrid, before other electric models. The company says the 530e’s battery can be charged fully within 3.5 hours.
As the German automaker showcased in the video, you’ll need to be careful while driving your car over the plate, adjusting the charging plate under your car with the pad on the ground.
If you have already an experience with wireless charges, you’ll know that charging pads need great attention. You need to carefully place your phone more or less the dead centre of the plate before it’ll start charging.
So, if it’s that hard with a phone, guess how much harder it’ll be with a car.
