Even with an all-star cast, and one of the most recognized recognized faces in India, Chopra’s glam Hollywood debut failed to stand out, in India and in North America. It debuted to a measly $230,000 on June 2 from 700 theaters across India.
The star power of Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron combined with Seth Gordon’s directing skills, all contributed to one of the worst grossing memorial day weekend in 20 years. The movie, made with around 70 million grossed a dismal 36 million in the US.
Although, Chopra had gone all out with her promotions of the movie in India but all that was not enough to salvage an already dead movie. It even received a below average rating of 14% from rotten tomatoes making it one of the worst reviews on the website.
Even with the script lacking depth Chopra’s bold portrayal of super-villain Victoria Leeds, won some praise.
James Luxford of Radio Times opined “Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra judges the mood perfectly, playing the villain with exactly the right amount of dramatic flair.”
So Priyanka Chopra’s career in Hollywood will certainly not be ending with this movie. Last year, she found wide fame in the U.S. for her performance as recruit Alex Parish in ABC’s Quantico.
