Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq - Transforming into a good opening pair for Pakistan

Pakistan have concluded their 2018 tour of Zimbabwe. Pakistan won the 2018 Zimbabwe ODI series by 5-0 easily. Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman breaks records in ODI series against Zimbabwe as his opening partner Imam-ul-Haq also moves into Cricket history book. Fakhar Zaman made history when he made the record of fastest to 1000 ODI runs in 18 innings. Fakhar Zaman got 515 runs in ODI series with Zimbabwe, thus making second most runs in a bilateral ODI series. Pakistan added 399/1 against Zimbabwe in the fourth ODI in Bulawayo, their highest ever team score in an ODI innings, leaving behind the total of 385 runs they scored against Bangladesh in June 2010.

Fakhar Zaman becomes fastest to 1000 ODI Runs

Pakistan batsman Fakhar Zaman has become the quickest to 1000 runs in One Day International format by reaching this milestone in 18 innings. Previous record was of 21 innings which was held by Vivian Richards, Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott, Quinton de Kock and Babar Azam. Trailing behind are Gordon Greenidge, Ryan ten Doeschate and Azhar Ali with 23 innings. Fakhar Zaman also became the sixth cricketer to make a double-century in ODIs in the 4th ODI versus Zimbabwe. Fakhar Zaman is the first Pakistan cricketer to join the prestigious ODI Double Century club. Fakhar Zaman had last year played an important part in Pakistan winning the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. Fakhar Zaman has continued the good batting performances which have contributed heavily in Pakistan remaining the Number 1 T20I team of the world for last 2 years.

Fakhar Zaman collects 515 runs against Zimbabwe

Fakhar Zaman scored 515 runs in series versus Zimbabwe, which is the second most number of runs in a bilateral ODI series. His average was 257.50 and he was dismissed only twice. Indian captain Virat Kohli leads the most runs in an ODI series list with 558 runs from 6 innings which he compiled in a series against South Africa earlier in 2018. Fakhar Zaman has also become the first Pakistani batsman to reach 500 runs in a five-match ODI series. The previous Pakistan’s record for the most runs in ODI series was set by Salman Butt, who had 451 runs in a 5-match rubber against Bangladesh in 2007-08. Fakhar Zaman’s tally is a record of most runs in a bilateral ODI series comprising 5 matches though. Fakhar Zaman scored 455 runs without getting out between second and fifth match of the ODI series with Zimbabwe, the most runs by a cricketer between dismissals. He broke the record of his countryman Mohammad Yousuf, who colleced 405 runs between dismissals, in 2002-03 during an ODI series versus Zimbabwe.

Fakhar Zaman together with his opening partner Imam-ul-Haq added 704 runs, which is second-best for highest partnership in an ODI series (whether bilateral or otherwise). Tillakaratne Dilshan and Upul Tharanga are on top in this list through 800 runs partnership they made from 9 matches in 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq lead highest partnership in a bilateral ODI series list though. Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq made a partnership of 304 runs for the 1st wicket in the 4th ODI against Zimbabwe, to break the highest ever opening stand in an ODI record. This surpassed the tally of 286 runs scored by Sri Lanka openers Sanath Jayasuriya and Upul Tharanga versus England in 2006.

Imam-ul-Haq moves into Cricket records book

Pakistan cricket team opener Imam-ul-Haq had good ODI series against Zimbabwe, making three centuries in the series. Imam-ul-Haq has scored four centuries in his first nine ODIs, to become the first cricketer to register 4 ODI hundreds during his first ten matches. Previous record was held by Dennis Amiss, who had got three centuries inside his first ten ODIs. Imam-ul-Haq has converted all his fifties into centuries so far. Babar Azam has made 8 ODI centuries from 44 innings, to become second batsman to take least innings to score this number of hundreds in ODIs. Hashim Amla got eight ODI centuries in 43 innings.
