How often do you see some of the biggest photography stars together in one place? That too to appreciate a startup that aims to revolutionize the way people book and hire photographers! All of this in Pakistan?
Correct! Fotisto has done exactly that. Currently, Fotisto is incubated at Plan 9 as a cycle 13 startup. They had a product launch event on 6th July 2019 at Arfa Tower Lahore, and the event crowd was overwhelming with attendees coming from all over Pakistan. Fotisto is building a digital marketplace for photographers which makes hiring them for any occasion a matter of taps on your smartphone.
The event saw big names as chief guests and panelists for the panel talk. These include Shah Rukh Bhatti & Shahzeb Bhatti from Bhattis Photography & Cinematography; Shahnawaz Chughtai from Guddu Shani; Osman Pervaiz Mughal from Photography – OPM; Yasir Nisar from Yasir Nisar Photography; Muaz Asim from Adhere Photography; and Ahmad Muzammil.
The event began with a panel talk about ‘Technology and Changing Landscape of Photography Industry.” Here the panelists shared their professional journey and lessons learned along the way. OPM stressed on the need to appropriately respect art in Pakistan. Shah Rukh Bhatti narrated his journey from excelling in the reel camera era to a digital one.
Shahnawaz Chughtai took a more relevant approach to advise the young audience about pursuing photography as a profession. “Lack resources… Don’t have DSLR? No Problem. Pick up your phone and do it,” he said. Every panelist stressed on the need for niche expertise and following passion, considering there were two engineers, one banker, and one MBA in the panel.
The talk followed a concise introduction of Fotisto by its CEO Haider Tariq. His speech was well-received by everyone as he artfully connected the panel’s problems to the very solutions Fotisto has designed namely Cloud Storage, Online Payment System, and Smart Management Tools. “A full-fledged CRM, chat system, and social media management system are under development now and will be added soon to the website,” said Haider. All of this ensures that from profile marketing to album delivery to payment transactions are handled online.
The event concluded with an appreciation certificate distribution for the chief guests. To the delight of many, discount vouchers worth 20k rupees were also given in partnership with Canon Image Square. The event closed off with networking and refreshment sessions.
