Double century in Cricket means scoring 200 runs or more by a batsman in an innings. Also called double hundred, this fate is rare in One Day Internationals (ODIs). Six batsmen representing four of the twelve Test-cricket playing nations have achieved the milestone of ODI Double Century on ten occasions. Cricket players who have scored Double Century in ODI Cricket so far include Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, Chris Gayle, Martin Guptill and Fakhar Zaman. Batsmen belonging to India have recorded double hundreds on five occasions. Players representing West Indies, New Zealand and Pakistan have made ODI Double Centuries once each. Rohit Sharma is the only cricketer who has hit double hundred on more than one occasion in ODIs, with three such knocks. Fakhar Zaman is the latest sports superstar to join this elite Cricket group.
Sachin Tendulkar becomes first ODI Double Centurion
Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar scored the first double century of ODI cricket history against South Africa. He achieved this fate on 24th February 2010 at Captain Roop Singh Stadium, Gwalior, India. Sachin Tendulkar also broken the record of most runs in an ODI innings, which was previously 194 runs, jointly held by Charles Coventry (Zimbabwe) and Saeed Anwar (Pakistan). Tendulkar made 200* runs from 147 balls at a strike rate of 136.05 with 25 fours and 3 sixes. Virender Sehwag makes 219 against West Indies
Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag also joined the prestigious ODI Double Century club started by his opening partner Sachin Tendulkar. West Indies was the misfortunate team as Sehwag scored double hundred on 8th December 2011 at Holkar Stadium, Indore, India. Virender Sehwag smashed 219 runs from 149 balls with 25 fours and 7 sixes at 146.97 strike rate. Virender Sehwag smashed the record of best score in an ODI innings held by none other than Sachin Tendulkar. India piled on 418/5 in allotted 50 overs. West Indies were able to score 265 all out with Dinesh Ramdin being dismissed on 96 runs. India won by 153 runs in the end.
Rohit Sharma registers ODI Double Century against Australia
Rohit Sharma became third Indian cricketer to hit ODI Double Century. Rohit crossed this milestone versus Australia on 2nd November 2013 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, India. Rohit Sharma hit 209 runs from 158 balls at a strike rate of 132.27 with the help of 12 fours and 16 sixes. India amassed 383/6 runs in total available 50 overs. Australia came mighty close by scoring 326 with James Faulkner becoming last man dismissed for 116 runs. Glenn Maxwell clobbered a quick fire 60 run cameo. Shane Watson and Brad Haddin also contributed with 49 and 40 runs respectively. India were fortunate to win by 57 runs.

Chris Gayle records first ODI Double Century in ICC Cricket World Cup history
It was just a matter of time before West Indies’ explosive batsman Chris Gayle joined honours at ODI Double Century club. ICC World Cup 2015 witnessed first instance of ODI double hundred in the history of ODI mega event. Chris Gayle 215 smacked runs from 147 balls at a strike rate of 146.30 with the help of 10 fours and 16 sixes. Marlon Samuels played second fiddle role with 133 runs in this match against Zimbabwe on 24th February 2015 at Manuka Oval, Canberra, Australia. West Indies compiled a daunting total of 372/2 runs. Target for Zimbabwe was 363 runs in 48 overs on D/L method, but they were bundled for 289 all out. West Indies easily won by 73 runs on D/L method.
Martin Guptill joins ODI Double Century party in ICC CWC 2015
