Olympic legend Michael Phelps is the fastest HUMAN we’ve ever seen in water, but can he out swim a shark?

According to a press release from the Discovery Channel, the swimmer will help kick-off shark week on 23 July by racing against a great white. The special segment will be called ‘Phelps vs. Shark: Great Gold vs. Discovery Channel’.

Representatives of the Discovery Channel stated how the great whites are one of the fastest predators on the planet and Phelps will have his fair share of work to do since his fastest recorded speed is at 6mph whereas great whites can reach north of 25 mph if they’re in attack-mode.

“Michael Phelps. 39 records. 23 Olympic golds. But he has one competition left to win. An event so monumental that no one has ever attempted it before.” said a statement from Discovery Channel

This isn’t the only segment from Shark Week that Phelps is going to be a part of. Another segment called “Shark School with Michael Phelps.” will feature Phelps uncovering the truth about myths and misconceptions about certain creatures at the Bimini Shark Lab in the Bahamas.
