A Brilliant Victory:
After recording a clean-sweep in the ODI series, Pakistan women started the Twenty20 International on Wednesday with a nail-biting one-wicket win at 133 for 9 (Javeria 52, Maroof 42, Kumari 3-23) against Sri Lankan team in Colombo. The nation’s been celebrating since the sports news broke.
Pakistan lost 6 wickets on the score of 38 while Javeria’s record 50 helped Pakistan clinch this thrilling match.
The Sri Lankan players were restricted by Pakistan to a modest 129-6 off the stipulated overs. Then Pakistan’s in-form batswoman Javeria Khan struck a brisk half-century to steer team to a thrilling victory.
Sugandika Kumari’s Performance:
Sugandika Kumari, the left-arm spinner of Sri Lanka, orchestrated the collapse to pick three wickets, including that of Javeria Khan, but Javeria managed to smash the fastest T20I fifty for a Pakistani woman. By then, Pakistan was within near victory even though they kept losing wickets.
Pakistani Captain Bisma Maroof’s Performance:
Bismah Maroof, the captain of Pakistani team, helped consolidate early in the innings with a brisk 31-ball 42 that set the target closer to the chase. With these two innings knocking off nearly three-quarter of the target, the others needed to just chip in, which they barely managed in the end.
Pakistani women’s cricket team have been performing quite well for a good time now but we still lack in appreciating with the right amount of decent words and enough coverage on sports news channels.
The clean sweep 3-0 suggests they might be doing better than the men’s team.
Let’s hope they start getting equal appreciation in future. We wish them good luck for all their upcoming matches and hope to get similar news of victories in future.
