Startup weekend is not a new phenomenon for the world. The idea behind these events is to promote entrepreneurship and startups. However, the women addition was one of its own kind to be held in Pakistan for the first time. The purpose of the event was to bring the female entrepreneurs in the spotlight and provide them resources for their business ideas.

The month-long powerful campaign under the caption “working wonders” paid off. 100 applications were shortlisted out of 250 to be the part of the event. The event itself went smoothly with almost 90% of female participation which was way more than expected. It started on Friday 5.30 in the evening. Overall 52 ideas were presented by the participants from which 17 were selected with the votes of the audience to be worked on further.

The participants also got a chance to be mentored as they were given different workshops in the course of three days. Also, a speaker session was held on the second day in which successful women from all the fields shared their experiences with the participants. These inspiring personalities included some big names like Hiba Masood, writer, educator, and storyteller; Khizra Munir, CEO Co Pakistan; Zarmina Faisal, Yoga Instructor and Nutrition & Lifestyle Coach; Maheen Adamjee, Co-Founder Dot & Line; and Uzma AlKarim, Senior Anchor and Producer Geo TV. While the Judges panel included Seema Jaffer, CEO & Creative Director Bond Advertising, Sadaf Mehmood, Partner and Enterprise Development Strategist SEED Ventures, Sadaffe Abid, Co-Founder Circle, Lubna Lakhani, CEO Raintree Spa, and Rabia Garib, Co-Founder and Chief Editor The New Spaces.

The winner of the event chosen by the judges was ‘DocTech’ which is a decision support system to reduce the doctor-patient interaction.

Other ideas which were worthy of execution and appreciation were included in the runner-up list.
