Evin Lewis scored his second career century, which also was his second against India, to lead West Indies to an impressive nine-wicket victory against the visitors in the only T20 international at the Sabina Park on Sunday.
Lewis’s ton was the sixth fastest in T20 Internationals and came off just 52 deliveries, helping WI chase their third biggest target in T20Is.
Earlier in the first innings, India blasted an enormous total of 190 runs in front of a decent crowd that had quite a lot of Indian supporters.
India clinched a healthy opening stand between Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan. They were 64 for no loss in the sixth over just before the first wicket of Kohli fell down. They suffered another sudden loss after just after a ball when Dhawan was dismissed amid the misunderstanding while running between the wickets between him and RR Pant.
Despite losing two back to back wickets, Karthik continued to ramp host bowlers with some fascinating shots between square and fine leg while Pant turned defensive to avoid any sort of further jiggle in the lineup. Apart from minor contributions from Dhoni, Jadeja, Jadhav and Ashwin Aggressive Karthik(48 from 29 balls) with timid Pant(38 of 35 balls) in the middle order helped India to mark the target as high as 191.
However, the target, which should have been challenging proved to be too little as Lewis, riding on chances he got from Indian fielders — he was dropped twice, made a mockery of it.
He hit 12 sixes in his remarkable innings of 125 (62 balls, 6×4, 12×6) as the Indian challenge fizzled out against the World T20 champions.
The only loss West Indies faced in their inning was the dismissal of Gayle (18 of 20 balls) by Kuldeep caught by Dhoni. Afterwards, Stormy Lewis with supportive Samuels took the game until the end. Samuels made 36 of 29 balls. West Indies chased down the target wth 9 balls to spare.
