Youtube Rewind Video

This year, 2018, the Youtube Rewind Video has officially become the most disliked video on Youtube! It has more than 10 million likes, surpassing Justin Bieber Music Video “Baby” which had a little under 10 million likes.

Bieber’s video took around 8 years to accumulate the dislike while the Youtube Rewind Video got the dislikes in less than 8 days, clearly the winner of the losing competition.

Youtube Rewind Video is supposed to circumscribe a year in Youtube culture, but it was an utter disappointment.

The video was posted on the Dec 6th, and the backlash has been loud and clear since then. People are incredibly disliking the video. Some of the creators who starred in the video have addressed the controversy while some have decided not to do anything about it.

Marques Brownlee stated that:

“I think the problem with YouTube Rewind, at least how I see it, is pretty simple actually. YouTubers and creators and audiences see it as one thing and, YouTube, who’s in charge of making it, sees it as something completely different.”

Youtube Rewind Video was on the same page as its culture. Between 2011 and 2014, it showcased the biggest moments, the most influential creators and the funniest memes. Things started changing gradually in 2015. But the most noticeable changes began in 2017 and continued into 2018. It is because YouTube backed away from creators, it previously highlighted.

The community once felt invited into the culture Youtube promoted, now feel completely excluded. It remains unclear what Youtube will be doing in the future. However, one thing is certain. Youtube Rewind is no longer a celebratory moment that the people would look forward to.
